Day 1: Heuglins Lodge.


Upon arrival into Lilongwe you will be met by your local guide/driver and be transferred to your hotel to refresh and rest after your flight. In the afternoon there is the option of visiting the sites of Lilongwe or resting before enjoying a delicious first dinner at Heuglins Lodge with your guide.

Day 2 and 3: Mumbo Island, Lake Malawi.


After breakfast you will travel by road to the shores of Lake Malawi. Arrive mid morning in time to take a village walk and have lunch at the village headman's house, learning about this traditional fishing community. After lunch head on to the boat pick up point for Mumbo Island where you will spend the next two days snorkelling, swimming and relaxing on this truly stunning island. Sleep under canvas perched on the edge of the lake and be woken with morning tea and coffee before spending the days exploring the island and meeting the local fishermen.

Day 4 and 5: Liwonde National Park


Take the boat back across to the mainland after breakfast and head south by road to Liwonde National Park arriving for a late lunch. Meet your local safari guide and head out for an evening game drive, stopping alongside the mighty Shire River for a sundown. Rise early and take a walking safari and river boat cruise before returning for lunch, a siesta and final afternoon game drive in Liwonde National Park.
Accommodation: Mvuu Camp, or upgrade to Mvuu Lodge

Day 6: Njobvu Village, Liwonde.


Your guide will wake you early for a morning boat safari before heading across the river to Njobvu Cultural Village. Njobvu Village has been set up as an ecotourism village and offers guests real opportunities to see how the local community live whilst providing an income for the local people. You will spend the day visiting the village headman, orphanage, school and eating with the local community. You will have an opportunity to learn about traditional village life, interact with local communities, and sleep in traditional village huts.
Evenings are spent watching traditional dances and sitting around the camp sharing stories with the local people and star gazing.

Day 7: Zomba Plateau.


After saying goodbye to the village community you will travel south by road to the historical town of Zomba. Following Livingstone's footsteps you will stay at Zomba Forest Lodge* on the edges of Zomba plateau amidst the pine forests with views down to Lake Malawi. The lodge is an old colonial forest warden's house and has kept all the charm of past days making for a unique experience with open log fire, evenings spent dining with your host and some of the best food in Malawi. The afternoon can be spent relaxing at the lodge or exploring the plateau by foot, mountain bike or on horseback.

Activities: Hiking, mountain biking, horse riding (additional cost)
*Option of staying at the larger Hotel Ku Chawe Inn at a small additional cost. Option of hiking Mulanje Mountain for experienced climbers.

Day 8: Blantyre.


After a morning at Zomba you will head to Blantyre and spend the afternoon exploring the historical sites of Blantyre before joining your local guide for a farewell dinner where you will have a chance to meet his family before spending the night at a city lodge.

Day 9: Departure


After breakfast transfer to Blantyre City Airport for a transfer flight to Lilongwe (flight cost included).
