Day 1 and 2 and 3: Ntchisi Forest.


Upon arrival into Lilongwe you will be met by your local guide/driver who will be with you throughout your trip. You will arrive at Ntchisi in time to witness the sun setting over the rolling hills of central Malawi. A converted colonial forest lodge will be home for the next three days, as you explore the surrounding rural hillside communities, taking part in some of the community projects and interacting with the local people. Hiking can also be done in the adjacent rainforest. Evenings are spent around the open fire sharing stories with the other guests. *Option of a traditional Malawian cookery course taught by local women, visiting local schools and tree planting programmes.

Day 4: Luwawa Forest.


After breakfast drive through the pine plantations up to Luwawa Forest where you will spend the day taking part in the numerous adventure activities on offer.
The lodge is beautifully set on the edge of a dam surrounded by the pine forests.

Day 5: Doneja Village, Luwawa.


Depart after breakfast and walk 2.5 hrs through the rural villages to Doneja Village. Meet the village headman and spend 24 hr within the village learning traditional village practices. Spend the night inside the village headman's hut and be treated to village cuisine and traditional dancing. An unforgettable experience!

Day 6 and 7: Lake Malawi, Makuzi Beach Lodge.


After breakfast in the village follow the lakeshore road and nestled into the shores of Lake Malawi is Makuzi Beach Lodge where you will arrive for lunch. The perfect place to unwind and relax. On day 2 you will go on a cultural village walk led by a member from the community which will include the Mission graves, the local museum, a try in a wooden dugout canoe and a taste of local Malawian cuisine.

Day 8: Mua Mission.


After breakfast transfer by road to the historical town of Nkhtakota where you will have lunch. Continue on to Mua Mission where you will spend the afternoon visiting the mission cathedral and learning about the different ethnic groups in Malawi and craftsmanship with a visit to the museum wood carving workshop.

Activities: Visit to the cathedral and wood carving gallery.

Day 9: Lake Malawi, Norman Carr Cottage


After a morning at Mua depart for Norman Carr Cottage arriving in time for a late lunch. After lunch relax on the beach before setting out on a sunset cruise with the owners of the lodge.
Accommodation: Ensuite Beachfront Rooms.

Day 10 and 11: Liwonde National Park, Mvuu Camp or Lodge.


After breakfast you will head down to a local boatbuilding yard where you will have a chance to meet with traditional Malawian boat builders and learn about this age old craft and the future it faces. You will then continue on to Liwonde National Park where you will arrive for a late lunch before heading out on an afternoon game drive with a local guide and ranger. Rise early the next morning for a walking safari and boat trip, lunch and an afternoon game drive followed by a taste of Malawian cuisine and traditional dancing under the stars.

Day 12: Njobvu Cultural Village


Your guide will wake you early for a morning safari activity before heading across the river to Njobvu Cultural Village. You will spend the day visiting the village headman, orphanage, school and eating with the local community. You will have an opportunity to learn about traditional village life, interact with local communities, and sleep in traditional village huts. Evenings are spent watching traditional dances and sitting around the campfire sharing stories with the local people and star gazing.

Day 13 and 14: Thyolo. Chawani Bungalow.


After breakfast in the village head on by road to the beautiful tea estates of Southern Malawi. Satemwa Fair Trade Tea Estate is idyllically set amongst the rolling tea fields and will be your base for the next two days. Spend time walking, mountain biking and sitting in the beautiful gardens overlooking the tea fields. This is an opportunity to see how a tea estate works, interact with the tea pickers and even taste some tea straight from the traditional tea factory.

Activities: Walking. Additional activities: mountain biking and tea tasting.

 

Day 15: Lilongwe.


Depart mid morning for Lilongwe stopping on route for lunch at the historic Mandala House in Blantyre and at Dedza Pottery where you will have an opportunity to watch the potters and buy arts and crafts from the gallery. Arrive in Lilongwe for a final evening in the city before your return home.

Activities: Visit to Blantyre and Dedza Pottery.

Day 16: Departure


Transfer to Lilongwe airport for your flight home.
