PB - June 2010

"We had a really enjoyable and interesting time with Mohammed and his team. Petra was awe-inspiring, but it was fascinating to listen to Mohammed's tales of the Nabataean history and how they used to live in the caves nearby. What struck me was the warmth and hospitality of the Bedouin and staying with them in their tents was so memorable - we even saw a young camel 2 hours after it was born!"

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Our interaction with the Bedouin guides, their charm and their perspectives on the history and current social and political life in Jordan was really memorable. Petra was magnificent and Jerash was a real gem. Jordan is a much un- heralded destination.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

More than 2 days in Petra is necessary. Must dos - Petra, Jerash, Amman, the desert. Be open to the everyday encounters with the guides, drivers, shop-keepers etc.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Benefitted local people. Not sure that tourists in Petra do much except create erosion for the site. More emphasis on the input of the Bedouin in Petra into the decison-making about the site would help with conserving the site.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

We had an outstanding holiday; needed more time. Would absolutely recommend it to friends and have done so. I am not prone re-birth but it was really outstanding. 4.5

5. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Some wonderful memories, I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend.
