"Over 25 years of inspiring journeys"

Our partner in the US is currently entering its 26th year of powerful wilderness and service journeys. In their words that's "26 years of fun and learning, hundreds of groups, thousands of river miles run, thousands of miles of trail hiked or biked, hundreds of summits climbed, thousands of friendships forged, many vital service projects completed, a million preconceptions about Native peoples shattered and around about one billion smiles".

In 1983 two teachers, Doug and Beverley Capelin had a dream. They wanted to do something that would change the lives of young people in a deep and soulful way. So, in 1984 they invested in a beautiful property in Southwest Colorado and made their home and Basecamp here. They built a community of people who are passionate about providing these kinds of experiences for young people and now welcome several hundred people each year.

Beverly and Doug are still very closely involved in the running of the operation, ensuring that the values that remain at the heart of the experience - honesty, depth, courage, diversity, "heartfulness", excellence, service - are upheld in everything they do. The operation has grown, but they have stayed true to their original mission, knowing the programming areas in incredible depth - nobody knows the Southwest like them - and forging deep and lasting friendships with their Native American hosts.

They have long-standing friendships in the Navajo, Hopi, Zuni, and Ute Nations. They have youth groups that live with Native American families and work with them on service projects important to their traditional ways of life. Conservation service is also an important part of their work. In cooperation with public land agencies, they also support service projects that teach stewardship of our natural and historical resources.

So the experience and the welcome that they can offer you is unique and inspiring. Not only will you see this location and undertake really exciting activities, but you will also get a rewarding insight into and contact with the Native American people for who this is their home.
